  10. <p>The unit was formed as the 85th Wing at Keflavik in October 1994 to replace the 35th Wing which relocated to PACAF, but is downgraded to Group status as of July 1995. The 85th was responsible for the 56th Rescue Squadron as well as the 57th Fighter Squadron with the F-15C/D. The latter unit deactivated on 1 March 1995 when the resident Eagle presence was replaced by a small number of aircraft on rotation from other units.
